Rose Expo 2010...Tashkent

Salaam,
After having our lunch at Brasserie La Rotonde on the ground floor of the Le Grande Plaza hotel on our second day in Tashkent, came across this expo apparently organised by Korean business community in Tashkent. It was titled "Rose Expo 2010," an exhibition of Rosepia flower, but we could also see several other Korean agricultural products on show. One interesting exhibit that really attracted my attention was a cucumber-shaped Korean green pumpkin, which initially I thought was just an ordinary cucumber. Beside flowers and roses of different colors, there were also other products such as Korean rice and vegetables.
A Korean exhibition in a far away city in Central Asia, at first I thought was a rarity. However, after being told by our local friend, Korean are one of the main investors and trading partners of Uzbekistan. Korean products, particularly electrical and electronics appliances are almost everywhere to be seen, and Korean-made cars are so noticable and aplenty on the city's streets. Not surprising though when we found out that Korean airlines are flying directly between Seoul and Tashkent on a regular basis, and more significantly a substantial percentage of the population are also of Korean-born Uzbeks...
Wassalam.
