The 10th day of Muharam is fast approaching again. Today is the day of Tashua, the eve of the day of Ashura, when Iranian Shi'as, once again, mourn the tragedy of Karbala and the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (Sayyidina Hussain) AS, the grandson of our beloved Prophet Muhammad Salallahu 'Alaihi Wasallam.
This year's commemoration is our fifth to date since we first observed this annual event in Iran in February 2006 (we missed the previous (2005) year's Ashura just a week before our arrival in Tehran).
On this auspicious day, let me just quote and share with you one of the great sayings of Imam Hussain (AS):
"O' God! Surely you know that whatever we did was not a competition to gain worldly positions and not for the worthless physical attractions of the world. But to show the signs of religious ways and to remove corruption from your lands, so that the oppressed feel secured and act according to your traditions and rules." (Tohaf-al Uqoul).

Wassalam.
