Arrival in Tehran...

Azadi or Freedom Monument...you can hardly help but notice it
on your way out from Mehrabad airport
Formerly known as Hilton, this was our temporary residence
during the first few nights of our arrival in Tehran

Remnants of snow still visible on the Alborz mountain ranges...Tehran

Another view of the snow-capped Alborz mountains from
the Esteghlal hotel

Salaam...

Apart from the more formal 'Assalamualaikum', the more usual form of greeting among friends and relatives is 'salaam' which literally means 'hello'.
Landed in Iran for the very first time at the end of February 2005, I could still vividly remember much of the capital city were still covered with snow particularly in the surrounding areas of north Tehran. Arriving at Mehrabad International airport at around 9.00 pm, together with the family, to accompany my husband, to begin his official assignment in the Islamic Republic of Iran. We could still feel the cold and chilly breezes despite the fact that Spring is just around the corner, marking the beginning of the Iranian new year...Nowruz.
