Lam Yai in Tehran...

still a rare sight in tehran...

Salaam,
Lam yai in Tehran market? Spotted this popular Thai longan (or Lam yai in Thai) and much esteemed by Thai fruit lovers, making its rare presence at one of the stalls along Tajrish Square yesterday.
Suddenly, it reminds me of our good old days in Bangkok. During its peak season from June - August, it can be seen in great abundance coming from Chiang Mai and Lamphun to the streets and stalls of Bangkok. The fruit, with its crisp skin and white flesh and sweetness, are usually eaten fresh, but are also popular when served as a dessert called "kho nieow lam yai" - a kind of fragrant rice pudding cooked in coconut milk. The canned longan is also served over crushed ice and milk...refreshing!
So how much does it cost here? Well, the price tag says it all...about US$5.00 per kilogram. Pheng margh kha...!!
Wassalam.

and still a rare commodity here though...

Fish & Chips@Lajeh...

Tandis Center

Salaam,
Been craving for fish and chips these last few days. I recall the last time we have had it was during our London's vacation last summer. So decided to have an early lunch today at Lajeh cafe at Tandis mall in Tajrish...the only one we still remember serving nice and crispy fish & chips in town. The fish they used is called 'Hooki' specially imported from Japan. So its kind of close and similar (well, almost) to the taste of cod, haddock or harmour usually used in the English's fish & chips.
So, for fish and fish & chips lovers in Tehran, this cafe is quite the right place to indulge in your favorite seafood cuisine. Apart from fish, they also serve delicious variety of salads, fajitas and other kind of seafood platters.
Wassalam.

Arabic Charity Bazaar...

Arabic Bazaar, 23 april 2010, Tehran
Salaam,
Another charity bazaar to attend yet again. Organised by the Arab Diplomatic Ladies Group in Tehran, it was held at the residence of the Syrian ambassador in Zafaranieh district, north Tehran.
The bazaar was officially opened in the morning by Madam Hassan, wife of the esteemed Syrian ambassador. Visited the event in the morning just in time of the inauguration. Managed to meet and mingle with a couple of fellow trailing spouses and regular and familiar faces from the Arab group, the diplomatic corps, as well as our old and new Iranian friends.
As usual, according to my Omani friend, the proceeds from the bazaar will be donated to local charitable bodies and organisations, particularly the home of orphanage and children with cancers.
Judging from the enthusiastic participation of almost all of the Arab diplomatic missions in Tehran and the big turn out of visitors today, I must say it was a very successful event indeed. Mabrook to all my dear Arab colleagues and friends...
Wassalam.
