The Day of Ashura...

Salaam,
Iranian Shi'a Muslims mourned the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (Sayyidina Hussein) Alaihi Salam on Sunday, the 10th day of Muharam. During the Ashura commemorations, mourners clad in black, take to the streets and congregate in mosques and Husseiniehs covered with black flags and banners to remember the martyrdom of the third Imam of the Prophet's Household. In Tehran, mourners marched in the city, flagellating themselves with chains, expressing strong emotions and devotion to Imam Hussein and his family.
This year's procession took place amidst tight security with more policemen deployed around the city. There were reports of sporadic clashes and riots between some protestors and the security forces mainly in the downtown areas of Tehran. So, unlike in previous occasions, today we have to restrict ourself to only watch the nearest procession just a few kilometres away from home.
Wassalam.
